On Your Feet
In making a reference to Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz, the Ruby Slippers series is a coming-of-age statement. I equate surmounting obstacles and difficulty with strength and inner wisdom. Red shoes of any kind are my symbols for discovering personal power. When things got serious my sister always said “Put your big girl shoes on!” I guess that is the same as thinking on your feet.
I like the idea that some shoes can take on a certain persona for us. Certainly, there are shoes that we wear for specific jobs or tasks. Shoes are the work horses of our wardrobes, even if they do not always look the part.
